第二章 抢食

After a night passed, the rain stopped.

It was not yet dawn, and the breakfast shop's door was still closed. Xiao Huang lay under the car, watching that door.

It grew light, the door opened, and yesterday's smell came out again.

Xiao Huang walked over and stopped at the doorway.

The person in the shop saw it, went back, took half a bun, and put it on the ground.

Xiao Huang picked up the bun in his mouth and was about to leave.

Just then, a big cat ran out from under the car.

The big cat snatched the bun in one bite, jumped onto the wall, and ran off.

Xiao Huang chased it two steps. The wall was too high; it could not jump up.

It crouched under the wall, its tail moving back and forth.

The bun was gone, and it would have to go hungry again this morning.

The person in the shop saw this and brought out another half bun.

This time, he put the bun by his own feet and stood still.

The big cat came again, standing a few steps away, looking at the bun on the ground.

Xiao Huang looked at the person's feet. Yesterday, these feet had been far away from it. Now, these feet stood between it and the big cat.

It walked over and quickly began eating the bun by the feet.

As it ate, it watched the big cat.

The big cat watched for a while, then left.

A person in a security guard uniform walked over and stopped at the shop doorway.

'Is this cat yours?' the person asked.

'No,' said the person in the shop. 'It ran here when it rained yesterday.'

The two people looked at it. Xiao Huang's fur was yellow, and its belly was white.

Xiao Huang also stood, looking at them. It felt that these two people would not hit it.

After a while, the person in the shop took out a small bowl and put it at the doorway; in the bowl was water.

Xiao Huang walked over and drank the water in big gulps.

After drinking the water, Xiao Huang crouched at the shop doorway.

Beside it was the wall, and the big cat was just on the other side of the wall.

The sun came out. The water on the ground slowly dried.

Xiao Huang lowered his head and ate the bun crumbs on the ground clean.
