Chapter 19
Sun Wukong saw the monster trying to run, immediately transformed back to his original form, and asked him loudly.
The monster recognized him as the Great Sage Equaling Heaven, was terrified, turned into a gust of strong wind, and directly fled back to the Cloudy Cave.
Sun Wukong closely chased after him.
The monster fled into the cave, took out his weapon the rake, and came out to fight Sun Wukong.
Sun Wukong asked him who he was.
The monster said, he was originally the marshal in charge of the Heavenly River in heaven, because he flirted with the fairy Chang'e, and was punished to come to the mortal world.
Sun Wukong then understood why the other party recognized him.
The monster cursed: "You, this horse groom, caused a great disturbance in the Heavenly Palace back then, and implicated many of us immortals.
Today you come again to meddle in my family's affairs, how can I let you off."
After saying this, he raised the rake and attacked.
Sun Wukong picked up the golden-hooped rod to fight.
The monster could not defeat Sun Wukong, and after a few rounds, hid back in the cave, tightly closing the door.
Sun Wukong first returned to Gao Laozhuang, told Tang Seng and Gao Taigong about the monster's origin, and reassured them.
Then, he returned to Yunzhan Cave.
Sun Wukong raised the golden-hooped rod and smashed the cave door with one blow.
The monster was startled by the sound, could not sleep, and had to rush out again holding the rake.
The two fought for a while again.
The monster suddenly stopped and asked: "Why aren't you at Flower-Fruit Mountain, and what are you doing running here?"
"Could it be that my father-in-law invited you here?"
Sun Wukong smiled and said: "It wasn't your father-in-law who invited me."
I have received the guidance of Guanyin Bodhisattva and am now protecting the great monk of the Tang Dynasty on his journey to the Western Heaven to fetch scriptures, just passing by here.
Upon hearing this, the monster immediately threw down his rake, stepped forward, and asked anxiously: "Where is the scripture seeker?"
Take me to see him.
Sun Wukong found it strange and asked him carefully.
Only then did he realize that this monster had also received guidance from the Bodhisattva and was waiting here for the scripture seeker, precisely a companion to go to the Western Heaven together.
Sun Wukong was very happy and immediately took the monster back to Gaolaozhuang, explaining the situation to Tang Monk and Old Master Gao.
Tang Monk was very happy in his heart to have taken on another disciple.
Hearing that the Bodhisattva had already given him the Dharma name Wuneng, Tang Monk also gave him an alias called Bajie.
Old Master Gao was also very happy to see the matter resolved satisfactorily and prepared wine and dishes to send the three off.
After finishing the meal, Old Master Gao took out gold, silver, and clothes to give to the master and disciples.
Tang Seng didn't want any of them.
Bajie, however, said: "Just now, I fought with my senior brother, and my clothes and shoes are all torn."
He asked Mr. Gao for a new set of clothes and new shoes and changed into them.
Before leaving, Bajie said to Mr. Gao again: "Please, father-in-law, take good care of my wife."
If we fail to obtain the scriptures, I, Old Pig, will come back to be your son-in-law."
Sun Wukong, who was listening nearby, found it both funny and felt like scolding him, so he pulled Bajie and set off on the journey.
