Chapter 17
The monks of Guanyin Chan Monastery saw Sun Wukong riding the clouds and flying away, and only then did they realize he was not an ordinary person, but a celestial being.
They dared not neglect Tang Sanzang any longer, and quickly served him and his white horse respectfully.
Sun Wukong rode the clouds to Black Wind Mountain, and from afar saw three people sitting on the hillside talking.
One was a dark-faced big man, one was a Taoist priest, and another was a scholar wearing white clothes.
That dark-faced big man said: "The day after tomorrow is the anniversary of my mother's death."
I happened to obtain a brocade kasaya last night, which is a treasure of Buddhism.
I plan to hold a 'Buddha Robe Assembly' tomorrow, and invite both of you to come and see it.
As soon as Sun Wukong heard the words 'kasaya', he immediately became very angry.
He jumped down from the cloud and shouted loudly: "Thief who stole the kasaya."
Quickly return my master's treasure to me.
After saying this, he raised his golden cudgel and struck.
The dark-faced big man reacted quickly, turned into a gust of black wind and escaped.
The Taoist priest also rode a cloud and fled into the distance.
Only the white-clothed scholar did not have time to dodge, was hit by Sun Wukong's cudgel, fell to the ground, and revealed his original form, which turned out to be a white-patterned snake transformed into a monster.
Sun Wukong closely pursued that gust of black wind and arrived in front of a mountain cave.
On the stone at the cave entrance, the words "Black Wind Cave" were written.
He shouted loudly towards the cave entrance: "I am the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, Sun Wukong."
"Monster in the cave, quickly hand over the kasaya."
As soon as he finished speaking, the cave door opened, and the dark-faced big man, holding a black-tasseled spear in his hand, jumped out.
He originally was a black bear transformed into a monster.
The black bear demon saw the visitor clearly, and instead smiled and said: I thought who it was, it turned out to be that 'Bimawen' who raised horses for the Jade Emperor.
Sun Wukong hated others mentioning his past official position the most, upon hearing this, he became very angry, swung the golden-hooped staff and struck towards the black bear demon's head.
The black bear demon raised his spear to block.
The two fought in front of the cave, spear and staff clashing back and forth, fighting for several tens of rounds, unable to determine a winner.
Fighting until noon, the black bear demon suddenly pretended to thrust a spear, and then said: Let's not fight today, I'm hungry, I want to go back to eat, we'll fight again tomorrow.
After saying this, he turned around and ran back into the cave, tightly closing the cave door.
Sun Wukong couldn't attack in for a while, so he had to first return to the Guanyin Chan Monastery.
Returning to the Chan Monastery, Sun Wukong and Tang Seng ate a meal together.
After finishing the meal, Sun Wukong came to Black Wind Mountain once again.
He was looking for the location of Black Wind Cave, but saw a small demon holding a wooden box with golden patterns in his hands, walking down along the mountain road.
Sun Wukong quietly walked forward and killed the little monster with one blow.
He opened the wooden box, and inside was an invitation.
This invitation was exactly from the Black Bear Monster to the old abbot of Guanyin Temple, Elder Jinchi, inviting him to attend the Buddhist Robe Meeting tomorrow.
Sun Wukong then understood that this monster and that greedy old monk had long known each other.
He thought about it; the Black Bear Monster definitely did not know yet that Elder Jinchi had already died by hitting himself, so he came up with a plan.
He plucked a hair, blew a breath of immortal energy, and turned it into that wooden box.
He himself then transformed with a shake, becoming the appearance of Elder Jinchi, and went directly to Black Wind Cave to attend the meeting.
The Black Bear Monster saw Elder Jinchi coming, was very happy, and set up a banquet to entertain him.
The two had just drunk two cups of wine when suddenly a little monster ran in flustered to report that the companion who went to deliver the invitation had been killed by someone on the mountain road.
Sun Wukong knew his plan had been discovered, so he laughed heartily, revealed his original appearance, took out the Golden Cudgel, and started fighting.
The black bear demon was both surprised and angry, and hurriedly picked up his spear to resist.
The two fought from inside the cave to outside, and from the front of the mountain to the back, stirring up flying sand and rolling stones.
When it was almost dark, the black bear demon gradually lost strength, so he turned into a black wind again, fled back into the cave, and tightly closed the stone door.
No matter how Sun Wukong shouted and cursed outside, he just would not come out.
Sun Wukong could not break the cave door, and had no choice, thinking that this demon was indeed powerful, and probably needed to ask someone for help to capture him.
He remembered that this place was not far from the South Sea, so he decided to go ask Guanyin Bodhisattva for help.
Sun Wukong arrived at Mount Putuo in the South Sea with a somersault cloud, explained the reason for the matter to Guanyin Bodhisattva, and asked the Bodhisattva for help.
The Bodhisattva scolded him, saying: "You monkey, if it weren't for you showing off the treasure back then, making others want it after seeing it, how could you have caused so much trouble."
Although scolding him, the Bodhisattva still agreed to help.
She followed Sun Wukong together, riding clouds to go to Black Wind Mountain.
Halfway there, he saw a person ahead riding a cloud and walking over, it was the Taoist who had been with the Black Bear Monster earlier, holding two immortal pills in his hands.
Sun Wukong quietly walked forward and killed the Taoist with one blow of his staff.
Bodhisattva looked and saw that this Taoist was originally a monster transformed from a gray wolf.
Sun Wukong picked up those two immortal pills, ate one himself, and handed the other to Bodhisattva, saying: "Bodhisattva, please transform into the appearance of this Taoist, and I will transform into a large immortal pill."
You go and give the immortal pill to that Black Bear Monster, trick him into eating it, and I will cause trouble in his stomach, not afraid that he won't surrender.
Guanyin Bodhisattva followed his method and transformed into the appearance of the Taoist.
Sun Wukong then transformed into a large and round immortal pill, Bodhisattva held him in her hand, and came to the front of the Black Wind Cave.
After the little monster went in and reported, the Black Bear Monster welcomed the Taoist into the cave.
Bodhisattva pretended to say: "Today, I specially refined two immortal pills, dare not enjoy them alone, and specially came to taste them with the Great King, celebrating the Buddhist Robe Festival together."
After saying that, she handed over that large immortal pill (transformed by Sun Wukong), and kept the other one herself.
The black bear demon was very happy in his heart, politely declined for a moment, then took the immortal pill and swallowed it in one gulp.
As soon as the immortal pill was swallowed into his stomach, the black bear demon felt a severe pain in his belly, as if an iron rod was stirring inside, hurting him so much that he rolled on the ground.
At this moment, Guanyin Bodhisattva revealed her majestic appearance and asked: "You demon, are you willing to submit to Buddhism?"
The black bear demon couldn't bear the pain and begged repeatedly: "Willing, willing."
"Bodhisattva, spare my life."
Only then did the Bodhisattva call out: "Wukong, come out."
Sun Wukong then crawled out from the black bear demon's nostril and changed back to his original appearance.
The black bear demon witnessed the Bodhisattva's power, did not dare to resist anymore, and obediently handed over the brocade kasaya.
Guanyin Bodhisattva put a golden hoop on him, took him back to the South Sea, and made him the mountain-guarding deity of Luojia Mountain.
Sun Wukong retrieved the kasaya, bid farewell to the Bodhisattva, happily returned to Guanyin Temple, and gave the treasure back to his master Tang Seng intact.
