What is your HSK reading level?
Read 17 graded Chinese sentences — from simple everyday sentences to literary passages — and tell us honestly how much you understand. You will get an estimated HSK 3-5 reading level and graded novels matched to it.
我每天早上七点起床,然后去学校。
Wǒ měitiān zǎoshang qī diǎn qǐchuáng, ránhòu qù xuéxiào.
I get up at 7 every morning and then go to school.
Being honest is more useful than being optimistic — your reading level determines which books will feel comfortably readable.
How this test works
The sentences are real sentences from our HSK-graded novels, organized into three bands: HSK 3 (simple everyday language), HSK 4 (connected narrative), and HSK 5 (literary and complex structures). Each band uses the vocabulary and grammar patterns expected at that level.
The scoring weighs your self-reported understanding across all bands. We recommend the level where you understand most sentences fluently — that is where long-form reading feels comfortable, not frustrating.
Why it matters: graded readers work best when you already know roughly 90% of the vocabulary. Pick a book below your level for a relaxing first read, or at your level for a challenge. See our full novel guide by level.
