Chapter 5
Sun Wukong became the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, but had nothing to do.
He walked in the heavens every day and met many gods.
The Jade Emperor feared that if he had nothing to do, problems might arise, so he sent him to manage the Peach Garden of the Queen Mother of the West.
There are three types of peach trees in the garden.
Some bear fruit every three thousand years, some every six thousand years, and some every nine thousand years.
Eating the peaches can grant immortality.
Sun Wukong was very happy.
He entered the garden, told all the gardeners to leave, and played alone in the garden.
Sometimes he slept in the trees, and sometimes he ate ripe peaches.
One day, the Queen Mother of the West wanted to hold a Peach Banquet and sent seven fairies to pick peaches.
The fairies entered the garden and could not find Sun Wukong.
They were afraid there was not enough time, so they started picking peaches.
They picked some small peaches and were about to pick big peaches, which woke up Sun Wukong who was sleeping in the tree.
Sun Wukong asked them who they were.
The fairies said that the Queen Mother of the West had sent them to pick peaches to prepare for the banquet.
Sun Wukong asked who was invited to the banquet.
The fairies said that the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas from the Western Heaven were invited, as well as all the famous immortals from heaven and earth.
Sun Wukong asked: "Was I, the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, invited?"
The fairies said no.
Sun Wukong was very unhappy upon hearing this; he thought to himself, he is the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, why was he not invited.
He used the immobilization spell, making the seven fairies unable to move.
Then he left the Peach Garden, flying towards the Jade Pool.
Sun Wukong arrived at the Jade Pool, the banquet hadn't started yet, but the wine and food were already set out.
Only a few people were busy.
Sun Wukong plucked a few hairs, turned them into sleep-inducing bugs, and flew them onto those people's faces.
They immediately fell asleep.
Sun Wukong walked to the table, picked up the wine and food, and ate heartily.
He was full and also got drunk.
Sun Wukong left the Jade Pool drunk, wanting to return to his own place to sleep.
But he took the wrong path and ended up at Taishang Laojun's Tushita Palace.
The palace was very quiet, Taishang Laojun was talking to someone else, and the immortal boys and immortal generals were not there.
Sun Wukong saw that there was no one in the alchemy room, so he walked in.
He saw five gourds next to the furnace, all containing refined golden elixirs.
Sun Wukong knew this was good stuff, so he opened the gourds and ate all the golden elixirs.
After eating the golden elixirs, Sun Wukong's drunkenness wore off.
At this moment, he thought that he had caused a big disaster: stealing and eating the peaches of immortality, disrupting the Peach Banquet, and also stealing and eating Taishang Laojun's golden elixirs, the Jade Emperor would definitely be angry.
He did not dare to go back, so he mounted his somersault cloud and secretly flew out of the West Heavenly Gate, returning to the Flower-Fruit Mountain.
Returning to the Flower-Fruit Mountain, Sun Wukong distributed the immortal wine and immortal food he brought back to the monkeys, and also talked about what he did in heaven.
The monkeys were very happy and drank together.
Soon, the Heavenly Court found out about what Sun Wukong had done.
Queen Mother told the Jade Emperor about the theft of the peach garden and the disruption of the banquet, and Lord Lao Zi also came to say that the golden elixir was stolen.
The Jade Emperor was very angry and immediately ordered several heavenly kings, including Li Tianwang and Nezha, to bring many heavenly soldiers and generals, tightly surround the Flower-Fruit Mountain, and capture Sun Wukong.
The heavenly soldiers and generals arrived at Flower-Fruit Mountain, and several heavenly generals came out first, calling for Sun Wukong to come out outside the cave.
Sun Wukong came out with some demon kings and monkey soldiers.
Several heavenly generals attacked Sun Wukong together, but Sun Wukong was not afraid at all, and fought them alone with his golden-banded staff.
The several heavenly generals could not defeat him and retreated.
Li Tianwang saw this and sent out more heavenly generals to attack together.
Sun Wukong also let other demon kings and four strong generals come out to fight.
Both sides fought from morning until evening.
Those demon kings were all captured by the heavenly soldiers.
Only Sun Wukong's own monkey soldiers, because they are very agile, not a single one was captured.
It got dark, and Sun Wukong saw that the monkey soldiers were unharmed, so he returned to the cave.
He thought, he had previously crossed out the names of the monkeys in the place that governs life and death, so these monkeys would not die, and thus are not easy to be killed.
Thinking of this, he felt a bit relieved.
The heavenly soldiers and generals also, because it got dark, stopped to rest, tightly surrounding the Flower-Fruit Mountain.
