Chapter 13
Tang Seng and two attendants walk westward.
They walk during the day and stay in temples at night.
Soon, they arrive at the border of the Great Tang, Hezhou Wei.
When it gets dark, they stay at Fuyuan Temple.
The next morning, as soon as the rooster crows, Tang Seng wakes everyone up to set off.
It is autumn then, and the sky is still very dark, so they grope their way along the mountain road in the darkness.
Suddenly, the ground beneath their feet collapses.
They, along with their horses, fall into a very deep pit.
This is a trap.
They hear a burst of loud laughter, and a demon king appears with many little demons.
The little demons captured Tang Seng and his followers, and brought them back to the mountain cave.
The demon king ordered the little demons to tie up the two followers, and then killed them.
The little demons divided and ate these two people.
Tang Seng saw this, was terrified, and immediately fainted.
Not knowing how long it had been, Tang Seng felt someone touching him.
He forced his eyes open and saw an old man holding a walking stick standing in front of him.
The old man reached out and touched it, and the rope binding Tang Seng broke.
The old man then blew a breath onto Tang Seng's face, and Tang Seng immediately felt clear-headed and woke up.
Tang Seng knew he had encountered a master, and quickly knelt down to thank him.
The old man did not answer, but just brought Tang Seng's horse and told him to leave this place quickly.
Tang Seng wanted to ask the benefactor's name, but the old man turned into a gust of wind and disappeared.
It turned out that this old man was the Great White Venus in heaven, who, under the Jade Emperor's order, secretly protected Tang Seng, so he came to rescue him.
Tang Seng lost his attendants, felt very sad, and could only continue walking west alone.
He walked alone for a long time, in the mountains, and felt very afraid.
On this day, as he reached the foot of a mountain and was feeling afraid, a tiger roar suddenly came from the forest.
Two large spotted tigers jumped out, blocking the road ahead.
Tang Seng was terrified and hurriedly pulled the horse to try to escape.
He looked back and saw a large snake on the return road, with a very thick body, raising its head and sticking out its tongue.
With tigers in front and a large snake behind, Tang Seng was a monk and had no weapons in his hands.
He could only close his eyes and continuously chant sutras.
However, something strange happened.
Those two tigers and that big snake seemed to suddenly become afraid, they turned their heads together, and ran into the forest in a panic, disappearing.
Tang Seng hadn't yet understood what was happening, when he saw a strong man walk out of the forest.
The strong man held a steel fork in his hand, had a bow and arrows hanging at his waist, and was dressed like a hunter.
Tang Seng quickly dismounted from his horse and thanked the hunter.
They started chatting, and Tang Seng learned that this hunter was named Liu Boqin, his home was nearby, and he was also a person from the Great Tang.
Liu Boqin heard that Tang Seng was a high monk from the Great Tang, going to the Western Heaven to fetch scriptures, and he respected him greatly.
Liu Boqin warmly invited Tang Seng to rest at his home.
Liu Boqin invited Tang Seng to his home, and his family also warmly entertained Tang Seng.
During the conversation, Tang Seng learned that the next day was the anniversary of Liu Boqin's father's death.
Tang Seng said, he is willing to chant sutras for the dead people.
That night, Tang Seng chanted sutras very sincerely, and kept chanting until late at night.
At night, Liu Boqin's father gave the whole family a dream.
He said, because the eminent monk chanted sutras, he can already be reincarnated.
The Liu family was even more grateful to Tang Seng.
The next day, Tang Seng bid farewell and was going to continue walking westward.
Liu Boqin's family prepared dry provisions to give to him.
Liu Boqin himself also accompanied Tang Seng for a stretch of the road.
The two people walked along the way and arrived in front of a very high mountain.
Liu Boqin pointed at the mountain and said, this mountain is called Wuxing Mountain, and also called Liangjie Mountain.
On the other side of the mountain, it is no longer the territory of the Tang Dynasty.
Two people were saying goodbye at the foot of the mountain when they suddenly heard a very loud shout coming from the foot of the mountain.
The voice shouted: "My master has come."
"My master has come."
