In the HSK 3.0 (
Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education), vocabulary and characters are distinctly categorized into two types:
- Recognition Characters (Characters you need to recognize/read)
- Handwriting Characters = Characters you must be able to write correctly
The requirements for Handwriting Characters 👉 include three key points:
- Ability to write the complete character independently
- Correct strokes (no missing strokes, no extra strokes)
- Basically correct structure (reasonable placement of components/radicals)
While calligraphic perfection is not required by official standards, structural errors or missing strokes are considered mistakes.
