Chapter 1: Pangu Separates Heaven and Earth

A long time ago, the world was not as it is now.

At that time, there was no sky and no earth. There were no mountains, no rivers, no sun or moon. Everything was dark, and nothing could be seen clearly.

This pitch-black world was like a very large egg. The sky and earth were together, sleeping quietly. This state was called chaos.

In the chaos slept a god. His name was Pangu.

Pangu slept for a very long time. One day, he woke up. He opened his eyes, but everything was still dark.

He wanted to see this world. He wanted to know where he was. But the sky and earth were together, too heavy and too dark.

Pangu did not like such darkness.

He reached out his hand and touched a large axe beside him. He picked up the axe and swung it forward with all his might.

With a loud bang, the dark world was split into two halves. The light things slowly rose upward and became the sky. The heavy things slowly sank downward and became the earth.

Pangu saw a little light for the first time.

But the sky and earth had just separated and were not stable. They seemed to be ready to join together at any moment.

Pangu was very worried. If the sky and earth merged again, the world would return to darkness.

So he stood between the sky and earth. He held up the sky with his hands and pressed down the earth with his feet.

He would not let the sky fall, nor would he let the earth rise.

One day passed, the sky became a bit taller, the earth a bit thicker. Pangu also grew a bit taller.

Many days passed, the sky grew higher and higher, the earth grew thicker and thicker. Pangu also grew taller and taller.

He stood there every day. He was very tired, but he did not put down his hands. Because he knew that as long as he stood, the sky and earth would become farther and farther apart.

Time passed year after year.

Pangu watched the sky become high, and the earth become wide. He heard the wind begin to blow, and felt that the world had new sounds.

He knew that this world was gradually becoming a new form.

But Pangu was too tired. He had stood for too long. His body was as big as a mountain, and as heavy as a mountain.

Finally one day, the sky would never fall again, and the earth would never rise again.

Pangu knew that the world had grown up.

He could finally rest.

This time, he did not hold up the sky anymore.

He slowly closed his eyes and fell onto the earth.

His breath turned into wind and clouds, flowing between the sky and the earth.

His voice turned into thunder.

His left eye turned into the sun, lighting up the day.

His right eye turned into the moon, guarding the night.

His body turned into high mountains.

His blood turned into rivers.

His hair turned into grass and trees.

His sweat turned into rain, falling onto the earth.

From then on, the world was no longer just darkness.

The sky was high, the earth was wide. The sun rose, the moon set. The wind blew over the mountains, the rivers flowed into the distance, and grass and trees grew after the rain.

He turned himself into this world.
